Untitled (Pink) 2013
Acrylic on canvas
84 x 42 inches (213.4 x 106.7 cm)
Henry Codax, a pseudonym taken from the character in Bernadette Corporation’s collectively penned art world novel Reena Spaulings, is a mysterious figure. His monochromatic canvases are hyper-minimalist, acting as little more than studies in color. Devoid of figures, yet rife with connotations, Untitled (Pink) becomes a blank screen for our own projections. This work was made for, and exhibited in, Codax’s West Coast debut at Michael Thibault.
Although no biographical details are known about the artist, Codax has displayed in solo and two-person shows in New York at Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, Martos Gallery, Carriage Trade, and in Zürich at Galerie Susanna Kulli.
