Porosity (Bay Leaves and Sandalwood IV) 2014
Acrylic, dye and burlap
60 x 48 inches (152.4 x 121.9 cm)
In Porosity (Bay Leaves and Sandalwood IV), Evan Nesbit explores the material and visceral possibilities of painting. Revisiting techniques from his earlier works incorporating wool and masonry foam, Nesbit takes advantage of the tactile potential of ordinary burlap. By pushing pigment through either side of the fabric’s weave, the artist creates a psychedelic and visceral playground of color.
After finishing his MFA at Yale in 2012, the California based artist has mounted solo and group efforts with Sean Kelly in New York, Roberts & Tilton in Los Angeles, and Koki Arts in Tokyo. He is represented by Eleven Rivington, where he will present his fourth solo show later this year.
Secondary estimate: $14,000.00
