Untitled (Black Sabbath) 2013
Acrylic and silkscreen on paper
26 x 21 inches (66 x 53.3 cm)
Creating a diverse body of work that probes the underbelly of the American subconscious, Will Boone merges the familiar with the strange. Each of his series draws from extensive research ranging from Depression-era hobo hieroglyphics to prison rodeos. In Untitled (Black Sabbath), Boone distorts this immediately recognizable found imagery, breaking apart language, context, and memory.
Most recently, Boone’s work was included in Andrea Rosen’s specially curated Frieze presentation alongside a slew of big names including William Eggleston, Harmony Korine, and Dash Snow. An alum of both Dan Colen and Mark Flood’s studio, Boone's own practice has rapidly gained momentum. In addition to his European debut last fall in London at Jonathan Viner, Karma at Gladstone Gallery in Brussels, and Peres Projects Berlin, the artist was commissioned to create an immersive installation for the Rubell Family Collection's annual Art Basel selection.
