Oxidized copper on canvas
24 x 18 inches (61 x 45.7 cm)
A leading member of Still House, Nick Darmstaedter is known for an astoundingly diverse body of work, all of which reinvigorates the idea of the Duchampian readymade. In Izzy, the artist is a post-minimal alchemist, creating an electrifying wash of color with the lowest form of American currency, the copper penny. These “penny paintings” have been exhibited alongside works by the minimalist icon Carl Andre as well as in major international venues.
The New York-based Darmstaedter recently closed a solo show, Napster, at Galerie Rodolphe Janssen and was prominently featured in the Still House retrospective at Zabludowicz Collection.
Secondary estimate: $19,000.00$ 15,000.00
