Each of Grear Patterson’s “duck test paintings” aims to challenge our visual reasoning and experience using a self-prescribed template of ‘X’s, ‘O’s, and ‘)’s. As with the other works in this series, Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose has been given its own unique narrative, character, and personality by the artist. Patterson has described the series as a kind of family, sharing the same bloodline.
The New York based artist is represented by Ellis King in Dublin and has recently mounted solo shows at Marlborough Chelsea and Carl Kostyál in Stockholm. In addition to several slated group exhibitions in Europe, his solo premiere in Los Angeles opens this month at the Depart Foundation.
