Noise 5 2014
UV-Cured Ink on Oil-primed Linen
60 x 44 inches (152.4 x 111.8 cm)
Creating a broad body of work that blends the virtual with the physical, post-internet artist Haley Mellin finds beauty in pixels and code. For this work, Mellin has transposed the white noise created from a scanner onto canvas, creating a delicate document of a mundane and fleeting digital process. As much of her work is web-based or virtual, Noise 5 also acts as a unique document of the artist’s probing study of technology.
A respected curator and academic, the New York based artist received a PhD from NYU and studied in The Whitney’s independent study program. Mellin was the recipient of the Rhizome Award (2014), the Haas Grant (2015), and a Whitney Fund Award. She is currently featured in the Zabludowicz Collections’ Still House Group exhibition, Testing Ground.
